The BWM i3 trunk extension creates about 35 liters of additional storage space without any compromise.
It fits into every BMW i3 and BMW i3s without the Range Extender option no matter what production year you have.
You can have the 60Ah, 94Ah or 120Ah battery, as long as you have no REX you can use the trunk extension.
You can still intall it even if you lower your car or use distance plates to widen the track and still have a nice and tidy boot because.
The heat pump and the hardware of the Harman Kardon Sound System is installed somewhere else in the car an so you can still use the additional 35 liters of trunk space.
This is the 4th generation of the BMW i3 trunk extension in which we have implemented all the improvements of the past years.
The additional space is more than enough to store everything you need as an EV-driver.
The trunk extension is designed for a total load of 7,8 kg.
Charging cables, extension cords, first aid kit, tire repair kit, hazard triangle, safety vest will fit easily and will even leave more space for other stuff.
Bigger, mobile charging devices like NRGkick or JuiceBooster do also fit.
The trunk extension is easy to install and can be removed without leaving any traces. Therefore it is suitable for leased cars as well.
In summary it is a very useful utility that should be installed in every BEV BMW i3 and is now better than ever.

War gestern bei Wolfgang um eigentlich nur die Frunk-Abdeckung abzuholen.
Bei die Kofferraumerweiterung dann ebenfalls gleich zugeschlagen. Der zusätzliche Stauraum ist enorm; kommt über das Video und die Fotos gar nicht so rüber, wie sich dass LIFE präsentiert. Die Material-Anmutung (Struktur / Farbe) ist perfekt. Nach dem Einbau (hat natürlich Wolfgang gleich gemacht) könnte man fast glauben, es handelt sich um ein BMW-Originalteil!

War diese Woche auch bei Wolfgang, um meine Kofferraumerweiterung in den I3 einsetzen zu lassen. Toller Service und außerdem gibt es immer einen netten Plausch zu den I3 spezifischen Themen. Insgesamt hat der Einbau etwa 10 Minuten gedauert und war völlig problemlos. Das Teil sitzt passgenau. Jedenfalls profitiert das Auto in enorm von dem zusätzlichen Stauraum. Auch eine optionale Anhängerkupplung macht keine Probleme.

I am impressed that my Trunk Extension and Frunk Sealing arrived in perfect condition after traveling for more than a month to Hawaii! The Trunk Extension seems to be high-quality although it is rather thin recycled ABS plastic that’s designed to carry no more than 7.8 kg.
A concern is that installing the Trunk Extension would reduce the load-bearing capacity of the original cargo area. The Trunk Extension replaces the CFRP or aluminum panel that provides strength for the cargo area floor. Without this panel, placing a heavy load, especially one with a small footprint, in the cargo area could break the carpeted sound insulation panel, especially when the load is over the open storage area of the Trunk Extension. I will be careful with heavy cargo.
The installation of my Trunk Extension was quick and easy. I was aware of the fragility of the neoprene rivet nuts that secure the cargo floor panel and had previously replaced all that had broken. I have a few spares that I did not need to use. Definitely only hand-tighten the screws that secure the Trunk Extension including the fastener that secures the bottom of the Trunk Extension to the carrier beam.
The installation instructions didn’t describe what to do with a small rectangular piece of foam with a hole in its center and adhesive on one side. I stuck it to the underside of the Trunk Extension so that the carrier beam attachment screw would pass through its hole, and the foam would be between the Trunk Extension and the carrier beam. Maybe having the Trunk Extension resting directly on the metal carrier beam isn’t ideal, or maybe I installed the foam in the wrong place!

I’ve been using the earlier GRP (essentially fiberglass) version of the trunk extension for over four years, installed in two different i3s. I had concerns over this being delicate, but mine has stood up to regular use and I would even suggest abuse. On a number of occasions I have carried multi-hundred pound loads in my trunk, and the trunk extension (protected by the stock BMW rigid carpeted floor cover) doesn’t look any worse for wear. In the mean time, it has been carrying my flat tire repair kit, an assortment of tie-down straps, bike locks, an extension cord, and other random odds and ends that would otherwise clutter up my trunk area. It’s relatively small, but if you have the need to store an assortment of items like this, the trunk extension is the perfect i3 accessory.

I bought the i3 trunk extension in December 2021 for my wife’s then new i3S. The best complement I can give it is that we forget it is there. Although we rarely use the charging cables I wouldn’t be without them on any trip so it is best to leave them in the car and without the extension they would be taking up room in the trunk or frunk! It frees up the frunk and my wife likes to keep her grocery shopping bags in there so when she gets to the supermarket she just pops the frunk and the Wokeby lid keeps everything nice and clean!
Why am I just leaving this review now after 3 years? I just bought myself an iX1 and there is no frunk at all and the cables and safety kit etc take up all the room under the trunk floor. On my old diesel iX1 we always used that space when we had a full car and had extra luggage or to store hiking boots and packs and poles on a day out. It took me about a week to remember but quickly checked to see if Wokeby did a frunk and I was thrilled to see they did. It’s on its way to the south of Spain as I type. Superb service again from Wolfgang! Once I’ve had it a week or two I’ll be back to leave another review.

So, the first thing to say is that I’ve read lots of reviews of the previous iterations of this trunk extension, and I’m really impressed that Wokeby have improved the performance with each revision. It was far easier to install than I expected it to be, and I did it in the dark. It was so nice for all the stuff from my frunk, and all the little bits I had been keeping in my boot and glove box to just disappear into its cavity under my floor. Both sets of charging cables, the tyre repair kit, the warning triangle, and my waterproof trousers, my gloves, and my cleaning products. I could just about add my torch too, but I wanted to prioritise access to the charging cables.
Note to add. I ordered this Christmas week, as part of the kit with the frunk seal and the charging flaps, and it somehow arrived before Christmas. This was a big (and pleasant) surprise.
