Do I need to register the frunk, or is an ABE required? No, and no. Since the frunk can be installed and removed with simple tools, without leaving any trace or permanently modifying the vehicle, it’s technically classified as cargo. No ABE or other registration is required.
Does installing the frunk affect thermal management? No. The frunk slopes forward and leaves enough space underneath for air to escape. On the BMW i5, meaningful waste heat is only generated during fast charging anyway.
Will I lose my warranty by installing the frunk? We can’t speak for BMW, so we can’t answer that officially. No customer has reported an issue in all our years.
