Today BMW unveiled the new i3 – the second model of the Neue Klasse. A proper sport sedan with up to 900 km of range (WLTP), 800-volt charging technology, and a design built from the ground up as a pure electric car.
For us at WOKEBY, this is a meaningful moment. Not because we inspired BMW, but because the new i3 comes standard with exactly what we’ve been retrofitting into the original i3 for years: a functional frunk, a proper charging solution, and a boot that uses the whole available space.
Trunk extension: the new i3 simply doesn’t need one
Our first product – and still our bestseller – was the trunk extension for the BMW i3. The reason: under the load floor of the original i3 BEV, there was a large empty cavity that went unused. Not a design flaw exactly, but a missed opportunity.
With the new i3, that wasted space never existed. The car was designed from day one as a pure EV, without the packaging compromises of a range extender. The boot uses every available centimeter – exactly as it should be.
Frunk: the new i3 has a real one
The original i3 had a frunk from the factory, but without a lid – an open compartment with no protection from rain or dirt. Our frunk sealing solved that problem, making the frunk watertight and actually usable.

Charging port flap: no more hanging rubber plugs
Anyone who knows the original i3 knows the factory charging solution: two rubber plugs that dangle when you charge and look worse every year. Our Charge Port Flap 2.0 fixed that – a proper, single-handed flap made from polypropylene.
The new i3 simply doesn’t have this problem. Based on what we see from the Neue Klasse iX3, the new i3 has an integrated charging flap – no hanging plugs, no fumbling.

The original i3 is still out there – and we’re still here for it
The new BMW i3 is a completely different platform, a completely different car. The original i3 – our i3 – is still rolling on roads around the world. Hundreds of thousands of them. And as long as that’s the case, WOKEBY will keep making everything you need to bring your i3 up to the standard it always deserved.
